Light It Up on July 1st! Decorating for Canada Day

Canada Day is a special day for Canadians as it marks the anniversary of the enactment of the British North America Act, which united the colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick into a single Dominion within the British Empire on July 1st, 1867.

Today, Canada Day is a time for Canadians to celebrate their country and its rich cultural heritage, as well as reflect on their shared values and achievements as a nation. Many people memorialize the occasion with parades, concerts, fireworks, and decorate their homes or streets to show their love for the country.

Incorporating decorative lights is a great way to commemorate Canada Day! Here are some design ideas we think will work great for the holiday:

Red & White String Lights

Red and white are the colours of the Canadian flag, so what better way to celebrate than with some red and white string lights? You can drape them across your front porch, along your fence, or even on your trees to create a festive atmosphere. These lights are easy to install, and they come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so you can choose the ones that best suit your needs.

Globe Lights

Globe lights are often used for outdoor events, making them perfect for a July 1st celebration! For instance, you can hang your globe lights above the dining area, directly above the table, or string them from a nearby tree or pergola. If you have a fire pit in your backyard, hanging large globe lights above it will create a stunning focal point. You can also install hooks above the fire pit to hang them from for your backyard BBQ area.

Pathway Lights

If you’re having a Canada Day party in the evening, you might want to consider adding pathway lights to your outdoor space. These lights can be placed along your driveway, or pathway leading up to your front door as a border around your patio or deck. They’ll help your guests navigate their way around your yard, and they’ll also add a touch of whimsy to your celebration.

Lighted Signs

Lighted signs are typically illuminated with bright and vibrant lights, displaying patriotic messages or symbols in honor of the country’s history and culture. They can be seen on buildings, billboards, and other structures across Canada. Whether it’s the Canadian flag, maple leaves, a solidarity heart, or other symbols, lighted signs are a great way to show pride and patriotism on Canada Day.

From classic red and white lights to more creative designs, the right lighting can emanate a festive and patriotic feeling for this important holiday. Whether used for backyard BBQs, parades, or other events, lights can help bring people together and add to the excitement of the occasion. So if you’re planning to celebrate this year, consider incorporating some decorative lights to help make your Canada Day truly special.
